Why aren't the scents great in the summer?
Hot temperatures can cause scents to become stronger and evaporate quicker. This will mean those scents you love in October can leave you feeling stifled in July. Fresh scents have been created to combat this issue. They are refreshing with lots of bright notes such as citrus, green and aquatic.
What makes a scent fresh?
Citrus notes (bergamot, lemon & grapefruit) all give a fresh, zesty scent. Green notes (mint, green tea & freshly cut grass) give a fresh and crisp scent. Aquatic notes (sea salt & aquatic notes) give you a light, watery scent. To stop your scent disappearing quickly, there will be a hint of musk or wood.
The catch: citrus fades fast
Top notes are very fresh and will disappear quickly. This is completely normal! To prevent this happening, look for a fresh scent with some wood or musk notes in the base. Alternatively, simply reapply. Having a small bottle in your bag will make this easier. Our travel sprays are perfect!
Pick by where you’re going
If you are going to the office, go for something subtle like green tea or soft citrus. If heading to the gym, apply your scent after your shower. Look for a scent with mint or aquatic notes. If heading out to the beach or for a day outside look for a marine or citrus scent. If going out in the evening during the summer, look for a fresh scent with some wood or musk in the base so it lasts through the sunset.

How strong should your scent be?
Generally in the hotter weather, you want to use an eau de toilette. Simply spray 2 spritzes onto clean skin, and keep your bottle somewhere cool.
Want a fresher scent with more depth?
If you are a fan of fresh scents, but would like something with more depth for autumn, look for wood or amber scents. Alternatively, look for fruity perfumes.
Citrus, aquatic and green: what’s the difference?
These all overlap but are different. Citrus will give you a zesty and juicy scent. Think of juicy lemons and grapefruits. Aquatic will give you a fresh, sea-like scent. Think of salty and airy notes. Green will give you a fresh scent of freshly cut grass, leaves or tea. If you want something with a burst of freshness, go for citrus. If you want something calming and fresh, go for aquatic. If you want a crisp scent with a touch of nature, go for green.
Humid heat vs dry heat
Humid air can make your scent feel heavier. Go for something lighter and less spritzed. Dry heat will make your scent disappear quickly. You may want a small bottle to top up. Either way, apply to clean skin and avoid spraying just before going into direct sunlight.
Top tips for lasting fresh scent
Apply moisturizer before applying your scent. This will help your scent last longer as your skin will be hydrated. Apply to your chest and the back of your neck as well as your wrists. Look for a scent with some wood or musk notes in the base. Accept that you may need to refresh your scent at midday.
Myths about fresh scents
"Fresh means boring". This is not true. There are many different options from sharp citrus to herbals and salty. "Fresh is only for summer". A light fresh scent can be worn all year round, especially indoors. “Fresh doesn’t last.” Whilst some fresh scents may disappear quickly, many with some wood or musk in the base will last much longer than expected.
